Rectangular Pipe Weight Formula (RHS)

Learn how to calculate rectangular hollow section (RHS) pipe weight. Includes step-by-step examples and IS:4923 reference.

The Formula

Rectangular Pipe (RHS) Weight Formula
Weight (kg/m) = (2(W + H) − 4t) × t × 0.00785
W = Width (mm) | H = Height (mm) | t = Wall Thickness (mm) | IS:4923

Worked Example — 100×50×4 RHS

Step 1: Weight/m = (2×(100+50) − 4×4) × 4 × 0.00785
Step 2: = (300 − 16) × 4 × 0.00785
Step 3: = 284 × 4 × 0.00785 = 8.92 kg/m
For 6m length: 8.92 × 6 = 53.5 kg per pipe
